Hart’s Tongue Fern Compact, evergreen fern with narrow leathery green fronds growing to 45cm. Clumps in rosette of arching fronds with ruffled edges. Native origin. Humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil, in semi-shade. Tolerant of dry shade once established, so water regularly during the first season and mulch well. Also known as Phyllitis scolopendrium

Undulated Hart’s Tongue Native form which forms small clumped rosettes of narrow wavy evergreen fronds, to 25cm height. Humous-rich soil, well drained but moist with reasonably neutral pH. Semi-shaded aspect.

Maidenhair Spleenwort – A compact evergreen fern produces rosettes of black-stemmed maidenhair-like fronds. Often seen growing in rocks and walls. Ideal plant for rockeries, brick and stone walls and softening edges in stepping stones and path edges in shady spots. Prefers semi-shade or sunny sites and neutral to slightly alkaline conditions.

Easily recognizable lady fern with fan-shaped pinnae. Originating in Ireland in 1857. forms a medium-sized clump with leaves congested into bead-like balls along the stems. Open and delicate in effect. Plants prefer a woodland setting, but will tolerate sun if given enough moisture. An easy fern, with a non-spreading habit.

Victoria Lady Fern – Originates from Scotland in 1861. Very narrow pinnae on long fronds with drooping tassels of split tips. The deciduous fronds reach 30-60cm and will tolerate conditions from full light to deep shade.
