A vigorous tough evergreen medium sized species ideal for the woodland garden; and will tolerate deep shade, but with less of a flowering display. Dark spiny glossy green leaves. Bicolor flowers with white inner sepals and reddish purple petals.

Epimedium ilicifolium – Chinese evergreen species from Shaanxi Province. Long narrow evergreen leaves with distinctive spines, up to 25cm. Large flowers with light green inner sepals and bright yellow spurs, on stems above the leaves to 45cm. Particularly cold-hardy, surviving above the snowline in its distribution.
