Section – Proliferae
Vigorous early summer flowering hardy perennial with purplish flowers with a yellow eye borne in dense tiered whorls on stout flower stalks. The leaves are large, up to 30cm long, green and cabbagy looking. Height 60-75cm with a spread of 45cm-60cm.
A wonderful strong plant for the bog or waterside. It enjoys a cool deep root-run in a damp, richly organic soil. Will tolerate both sun or partial shade.
Distribution – Marshy mountain meadow of north west Yunnan and Sichuan, up to 2500-3300 metres.
