Our ‘starter packs’ have proved to be popular in previous years. We offer four different named evergreen ferns, chosen by us. All of our ferns are suited to moist conditions in shade or semi-shade. All are hardy in the UK, although some will appreciate a more sheltered position. We will try to provide a good range ferns. No more than 2 starter collections per order (ie 8 different named ferns), please. Includes post and packaging (mainland UK only)
Deer Fern (Hard Fern) Native fern, which establishes well in shady areas in damp, neutral to acidic soil. Will grow in moist sunny sites. Evergreen fern forming neat clumps of long arched comb-like fronds. The tough fronds give the name Hard Fern.
Siebold’s Wood Fern – Slow spreading in dappled woodland shade, with blue shaded, leathery fingered fronds up to 80 cm. Drought tolerant when it is established and enjoys a warmer site. New fronds appear through the season. Originates in China and Japan.

Eared Lady Fern Very attractive hardy herbaceous painted fern. Forms a clump of arching pale green fronds with dark red stems up to 80cm, which looks particularly stunning as the fronds first emerge. Moist free-draining humous rich soil in semi-shade.
