Our ‘starter packs’ have proved to be popular in previous years. We offer four different named evergreen ferns, chosen by us, for £20.00 including post and packaging. All of our ferns are suited to moist conditions in shade or semi-shade. All are hardy in the UK, although some will appreciate a more sheltered position. We will try to provide a good range ferns. No more than 3 starter collections per order (ie 12 different named ferns), please.
Alpine Wood Fern Hardy semi-evergreen fern, with tufts of erect, narrow fronds up to 150cm. Frond ribs covered in yellow hairs when young, which turn black with age, giving this fern its distinctive look. Good quality moist garden soil in shade and away from heat in summer.
Siebold’s Wood Fern – Slow spreading in dappled woodland shade, with blue shaded, leathery fingered fronds up to 80 cm. Drought tolerant when it is established and enjoys a warmer site. New fronds appear through the season. Originates in China and Japan.
Large deciduous (edible) fern with a thick rhizome that occasionally can form a small trunk. Tall arching attractively bronzed graceful fronds appear in spring.
