Northern Maidenhair – Delicate, 20-40cm fronds with black stems, spread out into a fan-like circle. Hardy and easy to grow in moist, cool free draining environments in reasonable shade. Deciduous.
Japanese Painted Fern Hardy herbaceous fern with often reddish green fronds with a strong silvery sheen. Grow in free-draining moist soil in semi to full shade. Makes good ground cover.
Hardy and reliable herbaceous fern, which makes an ideal specimen plant. Distinctive red stems on delicate looking lime green fronds. A real favourite with us. Easy to grow in good quality, moist well-drained soil. Best colours seen in semi-shaded site. medium to wet, well-drained soil.
Soft-Shield Fern Hardy semi-evergreen fern with tall, upright, narrow fronds up to 90cm. Forms rosettes of soft dissected fronds. Moist soil in partial shade, or partially sunny site.
Broad Buckler Fern Hardy semi-evergreen with toothed and crispy fronds growing in bushy clumps to 60cm tall. Easy in good garden soils in full or partial shade.
Deer Fern (Hard Fern) Native fern, which establishes well in shady areas in damp, neutral to acidic soil. Evergreen fern forming neat clumps of long arched comb-like fronds. The tough fronds give the name Hard Fern.
Japanese Beech Fern Very attractive compact semi-evergeen fern with finely cut, soft green fronds held upright to 60cm. Moist soil in partial shade, but will tolerate periods of dry once established.
